Mike started acting, writing, and singing when he was about 13-14 years old.
He co-founded his first R&B group at age 15 named "Suede", where he began learning harmonies, etc. After Suede disbanded a couple years later, he co-founded another R&B group named "Evolution" in 1998, where he began honing his abilities as a songwriter. He also performed at numerous local venues with Evolution, such as coffee houses, weddings, churches, private parties, etc. During this time, he also was very active within the local Spoken Word circuit/community in Nashville, and would perform original spoken word pieces almost weekly at a then popular coffee house named "Kijiji's".
After Evolution disbanded in 2000, he eventually joined what would be the last R&B group he would sing with in Fall of 2001 called "Unique Soul". It was with this group where Mike would truly sharpen his skills as not just a songwriter, but also as a stage performer. With Unique Soul, he got the opportunity to travel across the country and perform in front of various audiences in various cities such as Atlanta, Chattanooga, Memphis, Montgomery, Miami, Fort Worth, New York City, etc. He had the privilege to perform for or open up for artists such as Jagged Edge, Run & Russell Simmons, Ginuwine, Angie Stone, and Anthony Hamilton. He also continued to do small acting gigs in between performances with the group.
After Unique Soul disbanded in 2006, Mike took a hiatus from music and shifted his focus to taking on more acting roles in or near his home town of Nashville, TN. He also focused more on furthering his martial arts training and also being a family man, as he had became a husband and father only a few years earlier.
Fast forward to October 2016, and after a chance meeting with a very talented fellow up and coming indie artist/beatmaker/producer named Darien Fields, Mike immediately got in the studio with Darien who began composing music to several of Mike's already written songs, as well as some new material. Unexpected obstacles then got in the way, and Mike's project was delayed for roughly a year and a half. During the "delay" period, Mike continued to write and self record new music, spoken word pieces, etc.
Mike then gained another streak of luck and through his own mother, became acquainted with Joshua Jacobs, a co-founder of the indie label "Capital One Entertainment". Joshua went on to help Mike re-record, mix, and master Mike's new music and helped Mike to release what would be his first solo album under Mike's own newly created indie label named "Elevated Consciousness Entertainment". The album was officially released November 10th, 2018 on various streaming sites such as iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Play Music, Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Pandora, iHeartradio, Youtube Music, etc.
Mike's debut album is titled "The Amalgamation Pt.1", and is a 6 track EP comprised of Neo-Soul/Alternative style R&B, Conscious Hip Hop/Rap lyrics, and thought provoking, reflective Spoken Word pieces. It is a milestone for Mike, as he has dreamed of doing a solo project for many years that truly expresses who he is as a human being. Mike seeks to bring back the heartfelt lyrical content of the 80's era, the old school R&B group harmonies from the 70's and the 90's era, and blend those sensibilities with conscious Hip Hop and Spoken Word elements of the 90's, 00's, and current era, but in his own, unique way. Mike has always been an avid lover of various musical sounds/instrumentation, ie keyboards, various percussions, electric & bass guitar, harps, violins, saxophones, clarinets, trombones, trumpets, etc, and loves to feature these musical elements all throughout his music. Even as he is currently promoting his debut EP, he is already at work on his follow up album, which will be "The Amalgamation Pt.2".
Mike is also a lifelong martial artist, and has studied numerous disciplines over the years such Boxing, Grappling, Taekwondo, Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do, Wing Chun, Five Animal Kungfu, Capoeira, Muey Thai, Jujitsu, Kenjutsu, etc. He has even created/developed his own unique martial arts system called "UMC", which stands for "Universal Martial Concepts", and is an amalgamation of his favorite techniques he has learned over his 30 + years of study.
