3 to Breathe most often hears its sound likened to that of alternative metal act Chevelle and rock band Tool. The group began when Kaminski and Davison were 12 years old and had aspirations of putting a band together but no idea how. The two were diligent in their guitar and bass practicing, but it wasn't until after high school that they began auditioning drummers. After many failed auditions they stumbled upon Lewis, who worked with them and began writing immediately. "We want to share what we do with people. It would be good for some kid to hear what I went through and say ‘Hey, I’m not alone.’ Music has always been a comfort thing to me. No matter what kind of day you’re having you have a soundtrack for it. If we can be in somebody’s play list for that, we did our job."
