we never know what life has in the hat! i learned i had a tumor in my brain, i got cancerous cell for my cervix, i might have also abnormal cells in my cerebral spinal fluid, around my brain and for my spine..
It's surreal, i always lived my life being careful and taking care of myself to avoid cancer, since i had predisposition, well, Cancer found me, so don't have the choice to accept it and deal with it. There are no bad nor good answers, life is a path, hopefully i will make it, we'll see.
The past is gone, and i have done my grieving.
it hasn't been easy but i'm still standing. I realized that i had to say good bye to a lot of people in the past few years, and for good reason. When people are there to watch you fall and push you lower.. it's time to ruled them out of one's life.i am a widow, a mother, a good worker and i will never let anyone bring me down again.i work for myself, i chose my clients, i chose my hours.. and that's true freedom.i was born to stand out not to try to fit in a box like most people do.Life has been a good teacher to me, and although i have lots of degree and diplomas, it never opened me doors i had to create my work and myself to survive in this world. My main specialty is being a recreational therapist, doing cognitive, sensorial and physical stimulation to help people gain their autonomy back, i adapt all their activity of daily living, i build their strength and self confidence so they can adapt to the change of their life and limitation.i also have a basis as a nurse, so i can monitor them, i train people that intervene in their life to make it easier at home, i don't take care of just one person, i usually take care of the whole family and all people that are affected by the illness of the client, got to reassess and adapt weekly or monthly.. all depending of the capacity for my clients to adapt, get stronger or weaker. When they need more help i made request to the community services and social work/coordinator in charge of the file, to get the services the Most of my clients are quadriplegic, hemiplegic, or suffers from ALS, or any other degenerative illness, those people need a lot of help and usually they don't get the help they need the most because of shortage of services.I help them to the best of my abilities, and i get great reward because i know i make a huge difference daily in their life.I also was trained to take care of autistic kids, with the method of ABA, which also help me when i do cognitive and sensorial therapy with elderly that suffers from dementia, Alzheimer. My biggest challenge has been to take care of a patient that suffer from frontal-temporal dementia, they lose ability to talk and understand the world that surround them, they lose all abilities over time, all i do is to stimulate them to not lose the basic of walking, eating, interact, do little things by themselves. My challenge is to keep them safe in their environment and train/teach them logical sequences of movements for every room of their house. what to do in the kitchen, what is appropriate to do, the same in the bathroom, i put logical sequence step by step for my client and for any caregiver or professional to follow so the client remains safe in his environment and can function with limited functions.I have had ALS clients as well, they are prisoner of their body as they lose ability to move or do any movement at all, Their body becomes their prison and within matter of months they lose ability to breath on their own, they need a respiratory machine to keep them alive, for them.. it's even worst.. because their brain is intact, they are lucid, they usually have a board to communicate or we take assisting devices to communicate, like a board, some patient communicate with their eyes.. other with one finger, and it's a long process.Every one of my client taught me a lot in my life.NEVER TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED NEVER TAKE LOVE FOR GRANTED NEVER TAKE HEALTH FOR GRANTED because you never know when all will be taken away from you, just in a matter of second or minutes, anyone can lose all.I am humble by those great people. 2019= i have been creating a program to teach autistic kids skiing and also teaching other kids suffering from motor delays, and muscular weaknesses, As well as teaching adult with phobia and fears, i help them overcome their fears. i'm very happy that watching them succeed step by step, brings me great rewards, last week, march23th.. my most severe non verbal autistic kid, was finally able to follow his mother and sister with my assistance, and i made the transition after teaching him for 2 seasons, it was a beautiful moment to watch him do it by himself and be in control of his skis. I love what i do and i am very passionate & patient with those that come to me. Next year i'll have De la Tourette syndrome, 2 of them, as well as more autistic kids. I'm grateful that my best friend and ex boss truly believe in me. That's how it all started, having good intentions and trying to make a difference, trying to include or reach out for those who can benefit from skiing. I am truly happy that i began and succeeded in it. Next year we got bigger plans and goals!
